A bit of a spin-off from a larger scene I was working on these days. I got a bit bogged down with the complexity and size of the scene so I decided to take a break. I sectioned off a small area and started to build a small pool. Paying closer attention to the details.
I'm Inspired alot by the 19th century art movement of Hudson River School. The works of Frederick Edwin Church in particular & his focus on realism and detail. His painting are meticulously detailed and almost dream-like. So I decided to make some renders loosely on the concept of birds in the tropics.
On a bit of a bird buzz I found some scans of my favourite tropical birds on Sketchfab (just google bird scans on Sketchfab as I'm not sure on Arstation's linking policy). I also learned that the Red Ibis is that colour because of the shrimp it eats.
Being a scan, I understand it doesn't hold up too well on close inspection. I started manually feathering them but realised it's too time consuming when the image is already okay without it.
Some of the images are graded in Davinci Resolve where I tried to portray a soft 'paintery' look. The other clean images are raw renders directly from Octane Render. I've tossed in a 360 panorama so you get an idea of how the scene would look in reality or in VR one day.
No birds were harmed in the making although I have my suspicions that peacock is a taxidermists scan 😁
Still working on the larger scene that I look forward to completing sometime this century.
